The Village Crier...Friend or Foe?

So…for our first topic I’ll write about something timely…our new edition of “The Village Crier”. I remember when I used to get this at the beginning of the month. I got this last one two weeks into the month. How helpful is that? Personally, I think that the Arlington Village website should have all of this information posted. It seems very hypocritical to use all of this paper but then stress every month how we need to recycle and conserve water! Also, a better website would probably lead to better communication and resident participation in community events. I heard that it costs between $20,000 and $30,000 to print and deliver our newsletters every year. WOW!

So…should we go to an electronic newsletter? Why can’t we get a timely newsletter? Is the information provided in The Crier useful to Arlington Village residents? What would you like to see in The Crier?

Thanks for listening…and I hope this first discussion topic gets plenty of buzz. Feel free to send other topics to me that you would like to see discussed.

Yeah, seems sort of strange that we get all these notices to recycle, conserve water and electricity, but they PRINT a newsletter. I wonder what the internet penetration rate is for the village. I bet it's in the mid to high 80s.

Let's go digital and quit wasting money on a printed version of the TVC.

Anyone see a bunch of rats lately by the trash bins? I've noticed them much more recently and they didn't used to be so bad. What's up with that?

TOTALLY AGREE! I don't even know why we get a newsletter that has dated material in it. If it was online it would not only be more environmental...but would hopefully be more up to date.

As for the rats...I hope I don't see any of them. :)

Jose told me that the newsletter indicated that Arl village water costs were close to $10 per gallon. Was Jose putting me on?

Totally agree with the online newsletter idea. Most of the info is simply regurgitated from month to month. Save paper, save bandwidth. Use the AV blast to announce when it's online or use any online newsletter software.

It seems to be printed primarily for the real estate agents to list units for sale.

Plus--the time the staff uses to distro the AVC in our mailboxes could be used for other things--perhaps like maintenance on the laundry rooms--does ANYONE report when the washing machines are STILL out of order? There's one on 13th going into its THIRD week of standing water.
