Board Meeting Results?

Any news on what happened at the Board Meeting? Will the pool be open past Labor Day? What's going on with Wi-Fi? Did anyone glance at the proposed budget. What about the guest speakers? Feedback would be great from anyone that attended or heard what happened.

Parking Lot Lookout

This was written under the AV Thefts on the lookout for trouble in AV. Let the blog know if you see anything so that we can post it for everyone to see. Thanks poster for letting us know what happened.

"On Friday I noticed 2 young teens (13-14?)walking through parking lots in AV and looking at the wheels of cars. They were walking in b/t the cars and I believe they were looking for cars w/ hubcaps but all the cars in my lot didn't have hubcaps so they continued on. I walked out to get my mail and they saw me and started to walk more briskly. Please be on the look-out."

Agenda for August Board Meeting on August 25

Here's what was sent on the AV Blast for Tuesday's Board Meeting. They hopefully aren't going to make the people who signed the pool petition wait 3 hours to discuss lengthening the pool season by 2 weeks. Tomorrow is the last day to sign the petition...go to the pool where the sign-in sheet is and the petition is right next to it.

Feel free to send in your feedback from the meeting if you attend.

New Website for Arlington Village

Now that the website has been up for a little while. Any constructive comments about it? It is still in the early what else should be added to it?

Army Navy Country Club

They have really been doing a lot of work over at the Country Club. Is this impacting any of the units that share a fence with them?

AV Blast...Thefts in Arlington Village

Subject: Thefts in Arlington Village.

The Arlington Village Management Office has been notified by several residents of thefts that have been occurring throughout the Village (S.16th, S. Edgewood and S Barton Sts) during the last week. Items such as plant hangers, window boxes, and flower pots have been reported stolen from in front of residents units. Also hub caps have been reported stolen off of a car parked on S. Edgewood.

The Security Committee has been in contact with Captain Nuneville, of the Arlington County Police Department. Captain Nuneville reports that Arlington Village is not the only neighborhood experiencing thefts of both car items and other things. The Arlington County Police Department has been having problems all summer, with catalytic converter thefts and license plate thefts (not in the Village) in other
areas close by the Village and all over the Third District.

At this time Capt. Nuneville will put in a request for extra police checks at nighttime in Arlington Village, per the Security Committees request. Capt Nuneville stated that " the Arlington Village community
needs to ensure that all valuables that they don't want taken, be removed from the outside. Times are tough right now and anything goes as far as stealing something. We will do our best"

Help prevent Larceny from Autos by doing the following:
• Always lock your car
• Close the windows
• Do not leave valuables in plain view (GPS, Satellite Radios, and Cell Phones etc.)

Please report all crimes and suspicious activity to the Arlington County Police immediately, with a follow up call to the Arlington Village Management Office

Thank you,
The Security Committee

Portable Storage Policy

I was browsing through the Village Crier and noticed the policy on portable storage units. It was intriguing since there has been a storage unit hanging out for what seems like weeks now, over by S. Edgemont.

I couldn't believe that AV was charging $50 for 1 to 7 days and $100 for up to 2 weeks. This was especially true after I looked up how much Arlington County charges in comparison. Here's a few of the numbers for you from Arlington County:

1 day $34.00
2 days $37.00
3 days $40.00
4 days $43.00
5 days $46.00
1 week $53.00
2 weeks $75.00
3 weeks $97.00
1 month $129.00
1 year $1,178.00

I don't think it is a bad thing to charge people for storing the PODS in AV parking spaces since in some areas these spots are few and far between. However, since we pay condo fees perhaps the first 2 days could be free? Wouldn't that encourage people to hurry up and get their business done? Whereas if I have to pay $50 for a week then why wouldn't I just take my time for the week?

Health Care Town Hall at AV?

With all this discussion on health care it is too bad we couldn't get our Congressman Jim Moran to come and talk to the residents of AV. I know that we sometimes have various speakers on enviro topics and lighting projects but perhaps we could expand into other national topics as well. I'm sure Rep. Moran would love to talk to 600 constituents...right? Maybe we could have an ad hoc committee that gets local speakers to come and do presentations on timely topics. Thoughts?

Arlington County Manager Resigns

According to the Sun Gazette:

"Ron Carlee, whose eight-year tenure as Arlington’s county manager has included challenges such as the 9/11 terrorist attack, an overheated real estate market and current economic slump, announced Aug. 3 he would be leaving the post to take a position with the International City/County Management Association in Washington.

Carlee plans to depart by November.

“My goals going forward are to take the lessons I have learned in Arlington and help advance professional local-government managers and prepare the next generation of local-government leaders,” Carlee said in a letter of resignation to the County Board."
