Secret Meeting to Change AV Rules?

Yes, it is true. I have heard through the grapevine that there is a meeting tomorrow night (July 16th) to look at changing the Arlington Village rules. Shouldn't a meeting like this be advertised? Why are we thinking about changing things such as unit boundaries???

Plus, to make it even more ominous...one of the Board Members said at the Board Meeting (where this meeting was discussed and planned) that it would be easier to change the rules than the By-Laws since those have to approved by the unit owners.

Nice huh? Can residents even attend this secret meeting? How will this affect everyone?

Rules.

"Young men know the rules, but old men know the exceptions." - Oliver Wendell Holmes

"There is no more important rule of conduct in the world than this: attach yourself as much as you can to people who are abler than you and yet not so very different that you cannot understand them." - Georg C. Lichtenberg

"There are no exceptions to the rule that everybody likes to be an exception to the rule." - Charles Osgood

"Any fool can make a rule, and every fool will mind it." - Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau had it about right. Rules is also a neat little restaurant up by Covent Gardens, and I'm kinda hungry.

I'm looking forward to reading Thursday's blog.

Is the only accountability in AV through this blog?

well, yeah!

Maybe they want you to pay for more "online management classes."

J.
New Business
Director Ashley Craighill is interested on taking a Management training course online (M-100) and requesting funds to
take this course.
MOTION: President Jill Lewis, second by Director Catherine Thomson
I move to approve the funds for Director Craighill to take the training course for the amount of $295.00
VOTED: Unanimously approved.

As an owner in the village, this frustrates me to no end. What about owner involvement? These rules impact us and you know what, we may have some good ideas too.

The only accountability (beyond this website it seems) is also through board elections. I think some of the members are up this year. Maybe it's time for a change and some new blood.

I think that those that make/change the rules should reside in AV as their PRIMARY residence.

You mean so that residents represent the interests of the residents on the A.V. Board?!?

That'll never work.

Very funny...what if the residents on the Board don't represent the way I think? I personally feel that most of them do not so it is my perogative to narrate their escapades and certainly spread the word so that people are educated at election time!

Perogative? I think responsibility would be a better word. The board has an obligation to act in the best interests of the residents. To the other person's point, it would seem counterintuitive to have non-residents representing the interests of residents.

Of course, even that doesn't address the board members, residents of A.V. or not, who seem to represent themselves and their own personal interests.

Narrate away! A.V will be a better place for it.

It is counter-intuitive to have non-residents representing the interests of residents, I agree. BUT, I think that seems to be the case!

Ms moderator, why do you not allow us residents a chance to post our views with out being scrutnized by you? Freedom of speech, yes in america, no on this blog. There's nothing like telling people how to live, what to say and what to think, huh???

I saw the earlier posting that is was ok to grow a veg garden in containers in the back yard and now its been taken off from the blog by the miderator. whats up ms moderator?? pray tell?

What was the upshot of that "secret meeting to change AV rules?" Who attended? Where was it held? How can we find out when the next "secret" meeting will be held? Who can we confront about this? Who is accountable for scheduling such a "secret" meeting?

I was at the Board Meeting where they discussed changing the rules. They started discussing what they wanted to change: boundaries of what's considered unit property, parking, etc...but one of the Board Members said that should be discussed later. They said that a smaller faction of the Board would look into changing the rules at a meeting later in July. I never saw notice of the meeting and haven't heard any of the results. I plan on going to the Board meeting on July 29 to see what the follow up is about it.

I haven't dug out my copy of the AV rules recently, but I suppose there are some rules that I don't like and wouldn't mind seeing changed. Anybody on this blog know who I would need to talk to about how to get a rule changed?

I have heard via the blog that the date that was planned for the secret rules change meeting was July 16. Anybody here know whether the meeting took place? Seems easily verifiable enough, since I think AV meetings are held in the AV Meeting Room. Anybody see anything going on on the 16th?
