Everyone Wants to Talk about Parking...

From blog reader:

"To move on to another parking issue, this morning I noticed contractors from the building across the street from Barton parking in the village. They were parking in the big, long, white truck."

I'm sure other people have noticed the workers on Columbia Pike working on the Giant complex are parking in the Village as well.

Also it was noted in other posts that it is supposed to get really windy, please tie down your chairs, markers, wine racks, whatever you are/were using to mark your spots.

I was nearly run down by a Halstead van hurtling into the Village on Edgewood--when the street was one lane.

I live at the north end of Barton Street, and really haven't noticed a problem with the construction workers parking there.

Really? It seems to be worse on Cleveland Street. Go out about 6 or 6:30 a.m. You'll seem them idling in their cars.

I think the signs are working on Barton Street. Thank goodness for them. I've seen the construction workers parking in the spots by the Mani Thai though.

Just wait until the Giant building is completed. We'll be screwed.

Arl. Co. has tightened zoned parking rules. We probably should get a jump on that now so we don't lose once things get finished on our "town center."

// and for the record

It's the commuters that drive in off the Pike and park on Barton to catch the bus that tick me off.

The Penrose Square workers do park in the surrounding streets but are usually gone by late afternoon. Its a temporary situation and there is really no where else for them to park. The guys are working hard on a project that will greatly improve columbia pike, so give them a break.

Holden, I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially regarding the commuters parking on Barton.

I have a unique suggestion;

Everybody put a lawn chair or red cone in the parking place in front of their unit and, claim it as your own.

Two car limit.

What's everybody think?

We either have rules or no rules. If the rules don't apply to everyone, then the legitimacy of any complaints about commuters is negated. You don't have a problem with the workers, then you don't have a probelm with the commuters.

For the record, some of us that park on Barton to catch the bus live in the Village. It's too far to walk in the morning (especially in the cold!), so I drive up to catch the bus. It makes me wish I did have an Arlington Village parking sticker on my car so I wouldn't get so many dirty looks!

Anon@9:10: Me too! There's is a lady in the top courtyard who scares me and some days i worry if she'd do something to my car.

"Too far" to walk in the morning? Oh, boy.

My household only needs one spot. You'd think that would be easy, but no.

So I'm installing spikes that only I can deactivate. If someone tries to back out of "my" spot, pop-pop-pop-pop!

Apparently I need to defend my "too far" to walk comment. I'm up at 5:30am and at the gym every morning for at least an hour. Its a rush to get home and to work on time, so yes, a 15 minute walk is "too far." Trust me, it's not laziness! Also, when I work until after 9pm, I don't feel safe walking all the way back...especially past the pool area.

Ha. Rule #1, don't ever try to defend yourself with this group.

If you prefer to drive the two blocks to the bus, that's your right, and privilege.

Maybe we could carpool to Columbia Pike, together -- I live near the pool.

Think about it.

The poll is weak. "Fixing the landscape" doesn't begin to cover it. Gutters have been destroyed, wood and shingles are coming off the building. Water damage is rife.
