You Think AV Has it Bad with Parking...

Check out what's happening in Philly...straight from "Getofftheinternet.org".

"In a city as old as Philadelphia, there are a great many time-honored traditions- the Mummers Parade, the yearly collapse of the Eagles, threatened garbage strikes, Justice Department probes of city employees and so on and so forth, et cetera, et cetera. In today’s Daily News (“The People Paper”) we are afforded a glimpse at another time-honored Philadelphian institution- that of using various pieces of furniture to hold your parking space, a precious commodity on the city’s narrow streets.

In the last two weeks, these spaces have become even more precious, due to some of the largest snowstorms in the city’s history. When people dig those spaces out, they want to save them by any means necessary, though doing so is technically illegal. The article is one of those slice-of-life pieces, giving many examples of the lengths to which people will go to save their spots and Mayor Michael Nutter even vaguely gives a winking approval to the practice. And, of course, with this being Philadelphia and this being the internet, there must be a group of reasonable citizens ready to weigh in on the matter, right?

i saw the news story where the woman complained of her tires getting slashed. She called it selfish. My thing is she was too lazy to park a bit further and WALK to her destination. Who is selfish now?

Yes. Reasonable.

A woman and her dog once pooped right on my sidewalk and left it. I scooped it up, followed her home and dumped, no spreaded it, all over her front steps. Since then, no on parks in my shoveled parking spot. And all I put there, was a bucket of sugar.

From ‘Beauty’-

don’t touch my chair in my spot…if i shovel you better believe i don’t want anyone else benefitting from my hard work…i’m petty enough to do something to your car if your bold enough to move my chair and trash can i use as my space holder…"

Did anyone notice that their chairs were moved today when they got home?

I’ll say it once again. I’m not opposed to Village residents parking anywhere in the Village. There are Village residents who routinely drive from the South end of the property to the top of Barton to catch the bus. Ms. Big-white-campervan-who-you-can’t-see-around is one. So be it. What I can’t stand is all the folks that drive in off the Pike to catch one of the many 16 buses we are so happy to have. If they can afford those Fairfax McMansions they can afford to catch the bus where they live. Zoned parking is the only answer. In 5 years time we will have it once “Penrose Sq.” or whatever they plan to call our “town center” gets finished.

I think falling ice ruptured a gas line in the tennis court courtyard today. Smelled gas. Saw Washington Gas Light folks sniffing around in the dark.

I don't need to do anything to the car that took my spot. My neighbors have already offered to do it for me.

Excuse me for my opinion, but isn't it a little childish to slash someone's tires or smear dog poop all over someones stairs. I always clean up after my dog and think it to be ridiculous when others don't but smearing dog poop is really passive aggressive, instead why not say something to the woman. Although part of me totally understands and would love to do the same thing, it just gets me nowhere so I do not follow through. Slashing someones tires because they parked in an area they didn't shovel is kinda ridiculous. I thought this was a community...?

I saw a member of the bopard taking furniture off the street yesterday

Damaging someone's property--including but not limited to letting air out of tires, slashing tires, keying a car--is criminal behavior.

I assume you mean board. WHO?!

Doesn't surprise me about the Board Member. Staff is doing the same thing. Don't be surprised if your marker isn't there when you get home today.

Snow is melting. There is no longer a need for the markers

The snow is melting, slowly, but there are still many parking spots that are completely inundated.

Instead of picking up my marker, maybe the staff should pick up a shovel and finish shoveling the sidwalks.

Or...Anonymous @ 3:29 you could. I finished up the walk in front of my place....

Bitch & Moan....Bitch & Moan....that is all most people in AV do. If you are so concerned about how the Village is run and services are provided then run for the BoD. Stop being lazy and feeling so entitled. The AV staff is doing a good job considering the circumstances. Yes, things can be improved, but cut the hardworking folks some slack.

Very well said. Thank you!

In a Washington Post poll, 75% of respondents feel that if you shovel it out, you can put a chair there.

Just reporting!
