Holiday Cheer & Break

This blogger will be taking a break until after the New Year. It has been a good year, in my opinion, for Arlington Village and we have a great deal to look forward to in 2010.

Please consider this an open thread to discuss anything AV related. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate Christmas, Happy Holidays to others and Happy New Year.

hey, blogger!

why not open it up, without moderation, and let the people have at it.

to begin with, the "approved by blog author" perceives you to be somewhat of a control nut.

and, considering what you've allowed in the past, why all the drastic changes? did the board spank you? did someone threaten you with lawyers?

if none of the above applies, then hit the switch and put out a disclaimer that you can't be responsible for the content of your blog.

and that's just my point, this is suppose to be "everyones" blog, or it's not a blog at all.

so, show some courage and take off the silly "must be approved" nonsense, because it ruins the spirit of what a true blog is all about.

thanks, and god bless arlington village.

While I appreciate the above post, I will not take the blog off comment moderation. Sorry Charlie.

There are some residents out there (you excluded, I am sure) who continue to say horrible things about their neighbors. I refuse to even publish their comments and provide credibility by publishing such posts.

I'm impressed. At 7 a.m. when I stepped out for a walk the units on the west side of Barton had been plowed, and an AV employee was cleaning my steps. A resident from the Commons commented on how well we were handling the snow.

My suggestion is if you have a shovel...use it. I don't know if anyone remembers the 2003 snowstorm but it was a lot like this one. Everything melts a bit during the day and then freezes at night. All that nice cushy snow that is outside is going to be an icy catastrophe. That means your car doors will be frozen shut, after the plow comes it will turn the drifts into frozen barricades and the sidewalks will be so messed up you'll have to walk on the street. Good luck to the AV employees.

Dude, where's my newspaper?

Kudos to the AV staff for the shoveling. Given the expansive grounds, they did an excellent job on Saturdazy (I counted three times that my steps were cleared) in the continuous snow storm.

I worked hard to shovel the parking lot where my car parked during weekend. I came home yesterday evening, there are no parking available near my unit and drove around to find a spot. I understand we do not have assigned parking but I wish I keep the spot I leaned!

Couple questions -
1. Do you think it is "neighborly" to put a traffic cone or step ladder to block a spot that you cleaned out?
2. Would you consider paying $200 a year for an assigned spot?

Anonymous from 4:10pm yesterday -

I had the same problem last night - the spot that I dug out was taken, as well as all the other cleared spots near my building. Eventually I found one - and now someone else is probably cursing me for taking their spot.

$200 per year? Where did you come up with that number? I don't think I would pay for a spot. A snowstorm once every 5+ years like this doesn't justify the cost.

200 was pulled from thin air. If 50 people decided it was worth it to pick their private spot then that would be an extra 10k for the village to offset increases in condo fees.

The snow storm added justification for me, but my motivation is around the growing number of two car dwellers which creates more limited parking when you arrive later in the evening.

Just an idea for recurring revenue to village on optional an basis for our residents.

Why would we have to pay to park?!

I didn't buy a place in D.C.

I do think we need to have a sticker system--two per household. Sick of having to park far from my door because overnight visitors fill up the lot nearby.
