Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Tomorrow we start a new year. Is there anything you would like to see in Arlington Village in 2010? I for one would like to see the meeting room and office renovated. The Board has been talking about it for awhile and with the new GM I think it is something that should be done. Anyone who has attended a board meeting knows the chairs are extremely uncomfortable, the table is falling apart and the room just looks shabby. The office, from what I saw at the annual meeting, is in great need of an upgrade. A number of the desks look like they are falling apart. I don't know the ins and outs of the condo budget but I feel like we could find the funds to make this happen.

I would like to see seeds distributed to interested residents again this year to help with bare spots. We had some great seeding this fall but I know there are several bare spots in my back courtyard.

I also want AV to continue to update the official website and begin an online version of the Crier.

What would you like to see??

99% of residents have never been to the management office nor would they care if the board has cushy suroundings to to debate their personal agendas.

Unless, of course, you're a board member...

Here's what my neighbors are concerned with...

This year let's start enforcing the rules and regulations...

* Crack down on the dog walkers who think they're above putting a leash on their pooch and putting the safety of others in jeporady.

* Take a look out back; some of my neighbors use their decks as another storgage unit. Others use the common grounds to store their grills, bikes, personal articles, and behave as if it's their very own backyard.

* They're aren't enough lights in our community. And, how come we don't have a "neighborhood watch?"

The latter is basic, security 101practiced in every neighborhood.

These are just a few things -- but refurbishing the management office and providing comfortable chairs makes no sense when other issues are more pressing.

Besides, you can't govern by sitting behind a desk; you need to get out, to see the problems.

God bless.

A Clarendon resident, Carl Diener, 57, was killed (stabbed) on his way to work at Sport and Health the other (early) morning. Police suspect robbery was a motive but they have no leads. His body was found near Liberty Tavern at 3 am.

Don't walk alone, folks, if you can help it.

BTW - the Village has tried a Neighborhood watch on multiple occasions, but there weren't enough concerned members to participate.

Start a facebook group and see how many people you can get to join.

I'm going to start posting unit numbers of the residents who don't abide by AV rules. If you walk your dog w/o a leash, fail to poop scoop or litter the common area with your personal junk, I'll post your unit number in ALL the laundry rooms. I saw this practiced at a building complex I lived at last year, and it worked like a miracle. Your thoughts?

Why not file a complaint with Covenants? That is the best way to get people to stop in my opinion.

Fail to poop scoop?

Seems like you were having a lot of fun in the building complex you lived in last year. I'm surprised you moved here.

Since you have, though: instead of playing secret-agent-of-Arlington-Village and anonymously posting the unit numbers of all those perceived scofflaws, why don't you just knock on their doors and tell them to straighten up?

You could help them by reciting the rules of A.V. You know, tell them to poop scoop, and all.

Plenty, but I will just repeat what the last poster did: if you have a complaint about a neighbor who owns, please put it in writing (and not anonymously) to the Covenants Committee. For renters, you must contact the landlord first.

to the 3:15 poster.

Keep your day job because you'll never make it as a comedian. If you have nothing serious to contribute, then please keep your inappropriate comments to yourself.

Seriously - have more fun with the poop. Pick it up and place it on the doorstep of the offender.

I've already done it and it is more effective than covenants will ever be.

I've never been able to catch anyone or their dog in the act! Are you looking out the window? Geez, tough to do for those of us who work.

I have to agree with the funster new resident in that regard--scoop the poop. It's disgusting when people don't do it. Don't have a dog if you can't be considerate.

I walk my dog so I have on occasion caught people doing the drop and run. Doesn't hurt to ask, but if not then I'll put it on their doorstep.

I do not approve of any Village money being used to buy new chairs or tables for the meeting room. Existing furniture, while not stylish, is quite functional!

Reading some old posts. Regarding renters who don't scoop their poop, you do not have to contact their landlord before filing a covenants complaint.
