Window Replacement

Have you replaced the windows in your unit?

Was it pricey? Did you use a real wood replacement or something else man-made?

Did you find a good contractor to do the work and are willing to share the info with us?

Is it easy to get approved to do the work by the Covenants committee?

I am also interested in installing new windows in my unit and can't wait to read the comments your question generates.

Imperial replaced mine and did a good job. The windows were expensive, but really helped with temperature and noise insulation.

Oh, great topic. I would like to hear from someone who did real wood replacements. I'm interested in knowing the difference in price vs. vinyl windows.

I've heard that some people prefer the wood because it is more historical than the vinyl.

I think when Imperial replaces the windows they also paint the frames to match Arlington Village colors.

Imperial did my bathroom, but I was not impressed. I wouldn't recommend them. I know Imperial and Regency are connected, but I trust Moses more.

Oh, bathrooms. Any recommendations there?

Mario Alas did mine. Great work. Very clean, very reasonable price.

The AV office suggested Flowers to do my bathroom. He did a horrible job and I would never let the chainsmoker back in my home.

A chainsmoker? Gross!

I've dealt with Flowers before. Real charmer on the phone but shoddy work. And, yes a non-stop smoker. There's a company called
"Angies List" where consumers write in and tell you who and who not to see. It includes, Drs., plumers, etc. And it's specific to your zip code. This is a great thread.

Try yelp.com as well for reviews. Just beware of reviews from people who have only one or two reviews.

What about kitchen remodeling... anyone take down the wall between their kitchen and DR?

I used home depot. They were ok, and other neighbors have used it. Quite happy with the new look of the windows, very easy to clean, etc. Expensive, but they did it in a day. Would be interested in "handyman" reviews. Another contractor did shady work and I want it to be finished once and for all.

Great post! You've got the people communicating here. As for me, I agree that not all window replacement service do a great job. Therefore, people should really make a wise choice of window replacement service.
