I was browsing through the Village Crier and noticed the policy on portable storage units. It was intriguing since there has been a storage unit hanging out for what seems like weeks now, over by S. Edgemont.
I couldn't believe that AV was charging $50 for 1 to 7 days and $100 for up to 2 weeks. This was especially true after I looked up how much Arlington County charges in comparison. Here's a few of the numbers for you from Arlington County:
1 day $34.00
2 days $37.00
3 days $40.00
4 days $43.00
5 days $46.00
1 week $53.00
2 weeks $75.00
3 weeks $97.00
1 month $129.00
1 year $1,178.00
I don't think it is a bad thing to charge people for storing the PODS in AV parking spaces since in some areas these spots are few and far between. However, since we pay condo fees perhaps the first 2 days could be free? Wouldn't that encourage people to hurry up and get their business done? Whereas if I have to pay $50 for a week then why wouldn't I just take my time for the week?

To the blogger: Thank you for this blog; I enjoy it and find it informative (mostly), thought provoking (sometimes), and enjoyable (almost always). Is there ANY WAY we can keep "bitter Betty" up there from spoiling the fun for everybody else?
I agree with past poster bitter betty is a drag. However if you read the blog you will see that the same person writes something nasty every time. It usually is the first thing posted as well. He/she is obviously a follower on the blog and waits to pounce on a fresh post. Now that is what is truly sad.
P.S. If I paid $50, I would keep it the whole week!
The original poster is making a point albeit they have no bedside manner.
I think there are BIGGER issues facing the Village community and these are the discussions we should be having.
For example:
The budget.
Thief in the Village.
Army Navy noise and construction.
Street lighing.
Security.
Parking.
Board of Directors.
So, when you devote a long and drawn out dissertation about a POD parked on Barton Street, with all these other concerns looming, it does sound "petty" compared to what we SHOULD BE be worried about.
