Yesterday, Arlington Village residents received our monthly Crier. Wow! You can tell there is a great deal going on behind the scenes with the Annual Meeting next week. A couple of highlights from this month's edition:
1) There are several call outs asking owners to submit proxies by Friday, November 13.
2) Letter from the Board President indicating "......by now you have received an "alternative" ballot in the mail. If you are confused, let me make it clear. That mailing did not come from the Board of Directors or Village Management. Further, if you have already sent in your proxy you do not have to send in another if you are content with your first choices. I know the letter was confusing, but if you have already mailed your proxy then you do not have to do anything else."
3) From the bottom of the first page: "Former GM accepts severance package and signs a waiver that protects AV from any potential lawsuits and other legal actions."
4) Its official! Good news (at least to this blogger). Condo fees are being reduced by 2.22%.
5) We're still having a Holiday party (December 16) and lighting contest. Again, the Village is collecting Toys for Tots. This is a very worthy cause.
I am looking forward to what our dear residents have to say about this edition.

Liked the Crier very much this month. More fact, less fluff. Even the font had to be reduced to get more info in this addition.
Got a hoot out of the request by the “concerned AV residents” to be reimbursed $700 for their mailing.
That takes guts. (I say guts instead of another word that might offend some dear readers.) With the price of gold these days, that would be half way to the gold watch they mentioned.
Sorry I won’t be able to make the dedication today. We do miss Jim.
I laughed out loud when I read that the owners of Unit 444 had asked to be reimbursed for their mailing. I was happy to read the Board unanimously turned down their request. The president's letter and the notice that the former GM had accepted the severance package in exchange for agreeing not to sue the Village is further confirmation that the Board is acting in the best interest of the owners and deserves to be relected.
Let's hear it for the current BoD!!! Great Job All!!! Let's continue the trend of new blood on the BoD. Make sure to get your proxy's in! Mr. Craig Freer will be a great addition to the BoD!!!!
What is the severance package? Is it strictly the salary through 12/31/2009, as indicated last month?
I sense each of your are feeling insecure, maybe threatened, about the alternative to the current list running for the Board.
I'll be voting for a change. I lost confidence in the current board and the way they mismanaged the firing of our GM.
It's not that I disagree with the decision; it's the manner it was handled that leaves the perception that this group is ill-prepared to handle the important functions of running a commnuity of over 1000 residents.
Their in-fighting, discourse and general distrust for each each other is what concerns me the most.
Dear Anonymous poster 11/11/09 at 8pm - I must say that I find your posting quite curious. I would appreciate an explanation on how the sitting board mismanaged the dismissal of our GM.
I also must respectfully disagree with you basically on your whole post. This board is perhaps the most cohesive, competent and compassionate one we've ever had in the 15 years I've been in AV. Yes there has been in-fighting but if you're truly honest and willing to stick to the facts you know that has come from two sitting board members who are obviously siding with the 'Concerned Citizens'. We also know that it is these two members who elected to walk out on the vote to dismiss the GM whereas if they had behaved better and addressed the situation maturely possibly we could have had a different outcome to this unfortunate situation.
It is precisely these types of postings and comments that I've read/heard from this group that makes me realize more and more how fortunate we are to have our sitting BoD. First of all the 'CC' Group was angry about the dismisal and were fighting for the GM and I guess her return. The Crier comes out yesterday and obviously the GM has not been in contact with this group or they would have known that an agreement had been signed. They seem to be all over the layout. The alternative mailing that was sent out was not well done or well thought out and in fact was so prejudiced in its content that again it made the sitting board look GREAT. These candidates have no platform and in fact one of them lives in NJ and is going to 'teleconference' if elected!! What is that about? It's this sort of nonsense from this group and the nastiness that has permeated this community that I find so insulting.
My proxy has been signed, witnessed and turned in and there is no doubt in my mind that I have chosen wisely and voted for the right candidates.

Just this (see below) paragraph alone in your rebuttal to my post validates the discourse I sense among the BOD.
Forgive me, but your post was double-talk; you couldn't decide what side of your mouth to speak out of.
To suggest that our Board is a unified group is dishonest, misleading and clearly indicates your out-of -touch with what the rest of the community see's.
I voted for change.
