I am creating an open thread for residents to comment on next week's Annual Meeting and whatever else is on their mind. It is set to be a contentious one. I hope that everyone in the Village plans to attend or turns in their proxy.
I received a number of requests from owners asking me to post items about the dismissal of the GM. I have been debating it. As an owner, I feel like the owners need to know. So, instead of me writing it, I thought I would let the comments speak for themselves.
PLEASE remember these are comments from OWNERS and not the BLOGGER. I do not have first hand knowledge of them. I am just passing them along to be sure there are several sides of this debate out in the open.
Comments received:
"The gm failed to pay our phone bills and the office phones were turned off the day after the board meeting in which she was let go."
"I received a notice about an unpaid maintenance bill from four years ago. Looks like the office is cleaning up the mess left behind."
"Why is it that the board is not telling more people about the GM's issues? I feel like if more residents knew they would not be so hard on the current board of directors."
"The file room was a pit. I can not believe the former board failed to see how bad things were or do anything to correct it. And the former president is running again on the alternative ballot? This person is who should be kept from the board."
"From my understanding, the AV audit reports clearly state the GM had a number of failings. Also, she failed to collect over $30,000 in funds due to the village just last year."
"There were several thousands of dollars of checks found in the gen managers office. She never got around to depositing them."

I also received notice of a small "unpaid" bill for which I'd delivered a check a year ago. I heard--though I don't know first hand--that she hadn't filed the tax returns for a few years. The former board was negligent in not dealing with this situation.
About this -
"Also, she failed to collect over $30,000 in funds due to the village just last year."
The directors are responsible for watching the budget. This is their fault, not the GM's.
Wait. The GM would know if the money was outstanding. Or should know. A paid staff person is supposed to be organized enough to know when there is $30K missing and tell the board and collect the funds. If this is not part of the duties of a GM then why have staff at all? Why not consider outsourcing the function?
You are right. The new board WAS responsible and they let the GM go.
I believe the new board needs to be sure the roles and responsibilties of the new general manager are well defined.
? - Did anyone else get an email from Board secretary requesting time to talk about Arlington Village?
Not sure if this was serious?
I've heard all the comments posted from neighbors in the village. When the current board assessed the situation they took the appropriate action.
Why didn't previous boards do anything about it? It is not as if this just started this year. I heard neighbors raise concerns about the former GM's performance long before these events occured.
To my neighbor who does not think the uncollected $30,000 is the GMs fault. Did you stop to think that the board may have realized there was no maitnenace income being reported and started to ask questions? Perhaps that is how the situation came to light
The sitting Secretary is CALLING everyone she thinks may be on the 'CC' gangs side in order to gain more votes for them. I have been talking to everyone I run into and have had this conversation with them asking them to vote and keep this board.
Don't you find it interesting that our Secretary - the one that holds up the Crier each month and sent this one back 8 times before it went to press has all of our phone numbers and email addresses? Did you know that she also had access to all of our personal information that is maintained in the office? Did you know that one of the 'CC' gang candidates actually lives in NJ but is planning on, if elected, to 'attend' the board meetings thru teleconferencing? Hmmmm - don't we want a hands on board? Don't we want to continue to PROGRESS instead of DIGRESSING? The 'CC' gang claims they're voting for CHANGE? CHANGE? That wouldn't be CHANGE - it would be the same s*&t, different day.
I can't personally attest to the veracity of the above post. However, I find the actions described therein reprehensible. Personal records kept by AV Condo Assoc. should not ever be subject to such appalling misuse. I believe that the Secretary be confronted with the charge implied above, and asked if there is any truth to it.
We are calling you out, Ms. Anonymous poster of November 13, 2009 2:34 PM. You're either making s*&t up about the BOD Secretary sending the recent Crier back 8 times for edits...or worse, you're a current BOD member telling tales out of school. Either way, shame on you. But your type knows no shame, do you?
"We're calling you out"?
The last time I heard that expression that was in fifth grade, when Tracey W wanted to punch out her romantic rival, Desi D.
In the last Crier there was mention that the Board had approve rules for the publication of the Crier for November and December. As a member of one of the committee I asked a member of the Board about the rules and was told that one board member had held up publication of the lsat edition with repeated edits. The first version was submitted to the board for review. The changes were incorporated and sent back out to the board. This was repeated 8 or 9 times. It becamse rather absurd as changes were being made to the changes. This board member also implied that the secretary was the culprit.
I think we all need to be careful about throwing around monetary figures when we don't have the facts. For example I heard the amount was $3,000 not $30,000.
Actually it was 30k from laundry (this was discussed at a board meeting last year) and 3000 in checks sitting on her desk that were not cashed. Some were years old.
Where there is smoke there is fire. I am convinced the board made the right decision to move forward and find a new GM. Thank you for being courageous.
As for the stuff about the board secretary, I hope it is not true but it needs to be addressed by the board. Personal records is serious business. So is holding up publications and association documents.
Listen to all of you--you spread gossip as if everything you say is the gospel truth! How in hell do you pretend to know any of this? From the sounds of it, you don't have real lives--you just hang out in AV spreading gossip. The GM is gone; isn't it time to exhibit a little maturity here and stop spreading gossip? For just one day...try posting something THOUGHTFUL and KIND.
To anonymous Nov 14th, 8:58 am--sure, post something thoughtful and kind--that sounds great. You first.
Ok, Mirror, I'll go first. According to Judeo-Christian belief, since "all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23), those of us who call ourselves Christians are called to loving forgiveness and the spread of positive information rather than evil gossip that destroys reputations and relationships."
I await your thoughtful reply....
I don't "call" myself a Christian.
You are posting inappropriate and prejudiced content.
Bizarre speaks for itself.
Love for the FSM,
The Mirror.
All of you need to "get a life."
This silliness is too funny, and only shows how petty each of your are.
I had maintenance done this past summer and paid $50 by check. The check never got cashed until after the GM was fired. I thought it was odd that the check was never cashed by the AV office; now I know why.
How does someone living in NJ plan to serve on the BoD? How can a past BoD president who let the community falter under her watch wish to serve on the BoD again? Do we want a union president to serve on the BoD...pretty soon she'll want to organize AV employees and cost owners MORE money, especially since she was opposed to having condo fees reduced. Seems like another "alternate" candidate has ulterior motives....he wanted a waiver to operate a home massage parlor...what else does he want a waiver for? This group wanted reimbursed for their mailing...what else do they want to stick owners with?
PLEASE vote for the formal slate of candidates on your proxy and let's keep this community moving forward and not revert to antiquated mindsets and old guard thugery.
I agree with many of the last poster's opinions, except, notably, the snide and potentially slanderous comment about the certified massage therapist. "What else does he want a waiver for" ---don't be crass.
The people have spoken!
And to those who publicly claim to encourage good neighborhoods, ponder that a Good Neighbor does not let the end justify her means.
