Pool Survey in Crier?

Did anyone take this survey yet? Not sure about their cess-pool name...perhaps you can come up with a different spin on their Committee name?

A Message from the Committee to Extend Summer Swimming (CESS-pool)
By Clare Hayden, Katie Graves, Vanessa Moulin, Lida Anestidou

One of the joys of summer is the open AV pool, whose season officially ends on Labor Day (plus two additional weekends). One hundred and nineteen pool users signed a petition, left for a week by the sign-in sheet, to extend the pool season until the end of September. Although this year the motion did not succeed, we would like to explore the possibility of renegotiating the pool contract for next year. To better inform the Board about how the pool is used, we invite each AV household to take part in a short survey about their pool preferences. The survey url is here and it will be open until October 15. We will discuss the survey results at an open town hall meeting on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 pm, in the AV Community room. To share additional thoughts about the pool, please write to us at avpoolfeedback@yahoo.com .

I'm against the "dog" swim; it's bad enough we have to share the pool with children in diapers.

What's the baby pool for if newborns are allowed to use the main pool?

Read this:

"Various infectious diseases such as cryptosporidiosis, norovirus infection and E. coli O157 have been linked to swimming pools - all associated with transmission from dogs. As with most infections, the very young, elderly, immunocompromised and pregnant women are at higher risk.

Like many things in life, there is some degree of risk associated with letting the pooch go for a dip in the pool, but you have to consider the risks and benefits together. The overall risk of infection from swimming with a pet in a well-maintained pool is quite high. The risks is probably even higher in a household pool (where dogs would have access) compared to a heavily-used public pool. Good general practices can reduce the risks further. Chlorine can kill most (but not all) possible causes of infectious diarrhea, but it doesn't work instantly. If someone or something contaminates the pool, there is a window of opportunity, that may last minutes to hours, for transmission of infection. However, some pathogens can survive for months in a pool, if not more. Therefore, chlorination is useful but not fool-proof."

You've been warned AVer's.

One last thing...

Who's going to be checking the following and have safeguards been put in place to prevent the following violations?

1. Keep dogs that have vomiting, diarrhea or skin infections out of the pool.

2. Dogs that have had diarrhea should probably be kept out of the pool for a couple weeks.

3.Don't allow dogs known to be shedding infectious agents like Salmonella and Giardia in the pool.

4. Some healthy dogs shed these organisms and it's certain that infected dogs go into pools with no problems, but if you know that a dog is shedding an infectious agent it shouldn't be in a pool.

5.Don't allow dogs that have fecal staining of their haircoat in the pool.

6.The same rules should apply to people. People with diarrhea should stay out of the pool since they are probably a greater risk for transmitting disease. It has been recommended that people not use a pool if they've had diarrhea in the past week.

BTW..

I work for the CDC.

OK. But what does this have to do with the pool survey?
The pool survey is about extending swimming time for people through the end of September and finding out whether there is interest in the Village for that.

The dog swim is only done AFTER the pool closes for a year. Geeze.

This has nothing to do with the dog swim. The dog swim, from what I've heard, is held under strict rules/laws from Arlington County. If you don't like the dog swim than I would go to the Board and say it shouldn't happen next year for all the reasons that you listed.

Should anybody take this seriously? I had no idea dog swims were so disgusting.

People swims are hardly hygienic either. That's why we have chlorine.

Dog swims are probably healthier than human swims. Humans can be very unsanitary & nasty at times. Besides dog owners will bring their dogs to the Vet faster than a human would go to a doctor......

Please keep to the topic, as these comments have nothing to do with the survey.

Well, clearly NOBODY has interest in the original post or survey.

The board has spoken.

It's probably too expensive to keep the pool open for the handful that are being noisy about it.

So, please stop being so rude.

Before making assumptions that it is probably too expensive to keep the pool open, one should look into it.

How do you know it's probably too expensive? What do you base your info on? and in comparison to what (the new web site costs? the $ that are being discussed to replace the gate around the pool?)

Board claims that they want residents to be involved and this is an example of residents getting involved - so let's see if they get shut down and whether the claim is genuine.

It would not be possible to extend the pool season this year without changing the current pool contract which undoubtedly has a closing date and that would likely be expensive. Anyone know if AV has multi year contracts or if they negotiate a pool contract each year?

Just took a look at the survey. The survey asks if pool users use the pool for working. How is it possible to use the pool for working? I thought it wasn't possible for me to give swimming lessons at the pool?

I'm just happy that people go to the pool. Half the time if you walk by the pool there is no one there. I guess you can equate that to the tennis courts or laundry rooms as well.

"How is it possible to use the pool for working"

I, for one, am able to work from home at times. Have laptop and files, will travel.

It doesn't apply to certain employment situations, obviously.

Enough already. Apparently there is a long-simmering feud between the alleged blogger and a member or two on the board--and "someone" mistakes other random people (such as myself) for his or her nemesis and fires off the nastiest, pettiest crap. Anyone who might consider buying property here is going to see this BS and run in the other direction.

As far as we know there are no feuds between anyone that writes on the blog and any Board Member. However, there is some disgruntled person out there that makes rude comments and wreaks havoc on the blog. We have spoken about this and thought about having to approve every posting...however we don't feel that all of our readers should have to wait on approval because of the pettiness of one individual. Thank you to all of the readers that use this blog responsibly and with integrity.

There is a HUGE "feud" between this blog and board members. Who are you kidding? This blog exist ONLY to antagonize board members, staff and anyone who doesn't agree with the main agenda on this board. Furthermore, why implement an "approval process?" You already delete comments when people standup for issues that are against your grain.

Run for the hills if you are looking to buy in Arlington Village. These people are nuts and have too much time on their hands to be posting these ridiculous comments.
