General Manager of Arlington Village Terminated
If you read anything from yesterday's posts you now know that our General Manager (GM) was terminated last evening. I haven't heard the exact reasons however I'm sure that the Board will be sending a notice to residents about the circumstances. Perhaps there were people at the meeting last night that know more than this blog?

Maybe now things will be more efficient around the Village?
Really? With a question mark, you seem unsure of your statement.
How would things change for the better; examples would be welcomed.
The FIREWORKS ARE ON THE PREVIOUS POST...
The BOD was reckless in its disregard for employment laws; they will come to rue the day they rushed to judgment. I see a lawsuit on the horizon; prepare to kiss a nice chunk of our $2M+ in reserves goodbye...They all should be impeached.
I wonder how Carmen's puppet master on the board is taking this?
To the poster that the BOD was reckless, your comment is reckless. I don't know the details of the reported firing, but for your comment to make any sense you must have some basis or are you just mouthing off. I would imagine that the GM is an at-will employee (like most of us, self included) and can be fired at any time.
In Virginia the laws are geared toward employers--not employees. Employees can be fired easily in this state with little, if any, recourse.
Please be respectful when posting comments about this subject. Only the Board knows what happened at the meeting. The blog hopes that more information will be provided in a timely manner to assure the residents that day to day activities will still be taken care of at AV. However, threatening lawsuits and saying the Board is reckless is a very slippery slope. Unless you are willing to say that you were at the meeting and that was exactly what happened perhaps people should not post on this subject.
Thank you AV Owner.
Who told you to put the muzzle on this issue, AV Owner? I thought you thrived on controversy and the misfortunes of others. This is your kinda stuff, isn't it? Don't bow to nobody.
So does Carmen get a severance package or is it hasta la vista?
Yes only the BOD is supposed to know what happened in Executive Session. It almost sounds like the 'good old girls' know more than they should.....Could it be that some board members are telling stories out of school? If that's the case - they should be ousted off the board immediately.
Certain board members have leaked information to cover their asses.
Most of us have a complete understanding of what took place at the board meeting, and how each board member voted.
Whoever indicated that this Board stands UNITED is telling a big fat lie.
Word on the street is the former GM is being paid through the end of the year
If anyone deserves to be sued is the former president and the current secretary who for years covered up the fact the GM was in way over her head. Once the Board had competent leadership the seriousness of the situation and the fact that it needed to be addressed would become apparent.
She wasn't over her head, she was doing two jobs!!
Personal work for Board members and trying to handle office management.
Certain Board members have sung like birds re the vote, who voted and who didn't....and why.
Disgusting.
And guess who's making all the noise? Guess who's saying this board has been reckless and rushed to their decision? Hmmmmmm - I wonder who it could be.
Personal work for Board members? How about ONE Board member who had no problem DEMANDING that staff get over to the properties she was selling to clean up before open house. How about total intimidation of Carmen and the rest of the AV staff! And that folks comes straight from the horses' mouth.
If Board members have been 'singing like birds' and giving up confidential information regarding this issue they need to be removed immediately. This is the type of behavior that has been tolerated in AV for far to long and it has got to stop.
4 voted for termination
2 voted against
2 didn't vote
big meeting 10/8
This is for the last poster - how do you know how the voting was broken down and where did you get that information?
I'm sensing there is one person who is responsible for all these posts...
I'm with you. Someone is mad because they no longer have situational power. Whoops. Sorry.
Good job board for doing the right thing.
Can someone explain how and why the community has kept a Board member on the Board who was responsible for getting Arlington Village sued for lying? (and subsequently cost the Village residents 100K +). I have heard this story from neighbors and do not understand.
I'd like to hear more about that (above).
One can be sued for lying? The Association can be sued for lying?
I think there is some truth to each of these post. The Board is filled with self-serving individuals with agendas other than serving the community we live in.
If your concerns do not meet their expectations their actions can be down right dimissive.
As owners we deserve a board that listens. As owners we deserve a board that is honest, has integrity and upholds the rules of our association.
As it stands, the current board is filled with ruthless, self-centered and ego driven members, whom some of which don't even reside in the Village.
This has to stop, and I'll be at the meeting to voice my concerns.
To the poster who wrote "As it stands, the current board is filled with ruthless, self-centered and ego driven members, whom some of which don't even reside in the Village." The first half of your sentence is subjective and I generally disagree. As for the second half, I am a unit owner and live in my unit, but note, you do not have to reside in AV to be a good steward on the Board. Keep in mind everyone that unit owners have made a financial investment and Board members' job is to protect that investment. You can do that and not live in your unit. Some would even say you can do a better job b/c you're not exposed to the politics and pressure from your neighbors. Whether or not you reside in AV is irrelevant to how good of a job you do serving AV's interests. There have been Board members in the past who reside in the Village and whose performance has been a disservice to us all.
RE: the voting results--I'd challenge that poster to tell us how she/he knows that.
Do the bylaws specify a majority to pass a motion? Seems like 4 is not a majority of those present and casting votes. Is that true? If 8 people are there, and 4 vote in the affirmative, is that a majority?
Is there a fidicuary responsibility policy in place? I guess I need to do some reading.
"....a Board member on the Board who was responsible for getting Arlington Village sued for lying? (and subsequently cost the Village residents 100K +)."
Can someone explain this one?
As for the other board members, I appreciate their efforts. They are all volunteers and put forth a lot of effort for the village.
I hope the person that keeps writing the same comments over and over again about how bad the Board is realizes all the posts look the same! We get it, you don't like what the Board did. You obviously know more than the rest of us and are just dying to say more. Personally, I will wait to see what the Board has to say. I don't trust one rogue person spewing venom.
the board members are circling like sharks tonight, aren't they?
they are ashamed of themselves and they know it.
When will the Board tell us what's going on? And whos managing the day to day operations? I hope we don't have to wait for the Crier for answers. Anybody know how we can find out waht's going on?
I would recommend calling the office for additional information. I also received an eblast yesterday.
I would like to hear a better explanation from the Board. Too many of you are jumping the gun (as always). I will say from my personal experiences, I am sorry to see Carmen go...that being said, I will judge the decision when I hear the reason. I just hope the AV Rules are a little better enforced. The people (I didn't say all pet owners) that repeatedly let your dogs run free (that should have 1000's of dollars in fines by now if the rules were enforced) as well as the people who can't shut your door (or your mouth) during quiet hours need to learn about respect for your neighbors. That's why those rules exist...because some are too dense to figure out thing like you don't need to slam your door for it to shut...and if you do have to slam it, you need to call a contractor.
I'm shocked over hearing this news like most others and my heart goes out to Carmen.
My observation: I don't go to the office very often, but the last several times I have, I noticed Carmen seemed incredibly frazzled. I felt sorry and concerned for the woman. Perhaps the responsibilities of managing a huge project like Arlington Village are way too much for one person to handle.
Is her health okay? Was she having some personal issues? I hope the board took these things into consideration before making such a harsh decision. If they didn't, then someone needs to look into the matter.
I continue to laugh at the anonymous bitching that is on this board. So few of the posters are willing to stand out in public for their comments.
I'd love to see each post tied to a house number and see how many of the cowards post such idiotic rants like mine.
Mark W. your being too hard on yrouself-your rant isn't that idiotic! But you did leave off your unit number--tho I am sure that was an oversite on yr part. Lucy N. #799
Lucy, you must live on the golf course since the Village only goes up to 755.
