The dog swim is on Sunday, September 20th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Check out the Crier if you need more information or if you want to register.
Early registration has already passed but you can still sign up...even on the day of the event if you have all your dog records and rabies tag.
This year all the donations from the swim will go to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue and Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation.

As I stated earlier, I'm against the dog swim because of health reasons and so should you.
This has nothing to do with pets and EVERYTHING to do with our well-being and the safety of AV residents.
Please read the following:
"Various infectious diseases such as cryptosporidiosis, norovirus infection and E. coli O157 have been linked to swimming pools - all associated with transmission from dogs. As with most infections, the very young, elderly, immunocompromised and pregnant women are at higher risk.
Like many things in life, there is some degree of risk associated with letting the pooch go for a dip in the pool, but you have to consider the risks and benefits together. The overall risk of infection from swimming with a pet in a well-maintained pool is quite high. The risks is probably even higher in a household pool (where dogs would have access) compared to a heavily-used public pool. Good general practices can reduce the risks further. Chlorine can kill most (but not all) possible causes of infectious diarrhea, but it doesn't work instantly. If someone or something contaminates the pool, there is a window of opportunity, that may last minutes to hours, for transmission of infection. However, some pathogens can survive for months in a pool, if not more. Therefore, chlorination is useful but not fool-proof."
You've been warned AVer's.
What exactly is it that you do not understand? The dog swim occurs after the pool is closed for the season to humans.
AV residents are not being exposed to any of the various infectious diseases you discuss.
I have no problem and I am a microbiologist.
Thanks, Anonymous, for making your statement twice.
(Throws caution to wind...)
See everyone at the Dog Swim! Can't wait!!!
Cool!
A true microbiologist couldn't have made that statement. Cytosporidiuos organisms can survie for months, in all types of elements, and can be unforgiving to your nervous system if attacked. Please don't make foolish statements, because your ignorance puts others at risk.
Tribute bench has nothing to do with the dog swim. Those funds were raised separately.
Did the board veto keeping the pool open an additional two weeks?
I'm with the "true" microbiologist on this one. Ms "cytosporidiuos organisms" can't even punctuate properly.
Ok, head blogger. Answering your own questions, again, aren't you?
lol
When's the AV Board Dunk?
What question did I answer?
I'm excited about the dog swim. Those afraid to go outside their house for fear of being eaten by flesh eating bugs can just stay home and never use the pool or have fun in life for that matter.
Seriously, for health reasons? There are lots of things that are unhealthy in this world. We shouldn't avoid fun because of it.
The funds go to a great cause.
Yes, the funds go to a great cause--the Lost Dog (and Cat) Rescue.
I hope this year's dog swim was a success.
The dog swim was a success. Great turnout. Kudos to the organizing committee!
I attended and the event was a huge success. Great job organizers.
AV puppies went home very happy from the Dog Swim. I can't wait for next year's swim.
Who cleans up the pool after the swim? What's done to disenfect the pool, etc? Just curious...
Pet owners are selfish. My neighbor never p-up after their dog and down the street that dog owner her dog's poop is good fertilizer. Selfish.
I'm a pet owner. I clean up after my pet. If I see someone not picking up their pet's business, I say something. Instead of saying that all pet owners are selfish perhaps you could nicely remind your neighbor to pick up after their pet?
I agree. No need to paint everyone with the same brush. Some neighbors are slobs, some can't keep their houses clean, that doesn't mean all people in AV are like that or that all dog owners are selfish.
There is a family in my courtyard who refuses to leash their dog and they fake picking up after their pooch. And the don't give a damn! Not leashing your dog is dangerous and a HUGE liability issue.
They fake picking up after their pet? Sounds far fetched. Videotape them and send it to the Board showing the evidence that they left behind.
Ever think about leaving the poop on the door step of the people that don't pick it up. I did a couple months ago as my revenge for watching a couple repeatedly dump and run.
childish -YES, but most effective.
Please be aware that having the dogs swim in the pool does not cause a health problem for humans. Why?
1. The pool is closed to human for the SEASON prior to the dog swim.
2. The guards strickly prohibit any humans from going into the pool during the dog swim.
3. The filters at the pool are turned off during the dog swim.
4. Only about 10 dogs actually go into the pool, mostly labs. The rest of the dogs frolick around the pool deck but never go into the water.
5. The pool is particially drained and closed for the winter. (Some water is left in the pool over the winter to weight it down so it doesn't crack or move.)
6. The pool is completely drained in the spring & completely cleaned of all winter debris before it is refilled in the spring.
Yes, there are health risks if you swim with dogs or if dogs are allowed into the same pool water as humans. Our dog swim doesn't allow for either case.
Ok. That's fine.
But is the pool cleaned afterwards? And, if so, how?
If your so worried, just don't go into the pool. Others clearly don't have your concerns. Also, for those who know people don't pick up after their pets report it to the covenants committee.
"If your so worried, just don't go into the pool."
That's your responce?
Whomever said pet owners were selfish must have had you in mind.
