What have you done for your neighbor lately?

Just a reminder that this blog isn't about all that is wrong with the Village...but also all that is right.

I love living in the Village since it is so close to DC but set back enough to make it feel like I'm not in the city. We have plenty of trees and grass (patchy at that) and mostly nice but quiet neighbors.

I understand that some people just want to be left alone...they don't want to say hi to their neighbors and in general are just not social. But, I believe that most AV residents (owners and renters) say hello to their neighbors at the very least.

So...what have you done for your neighbor lately? Picked up their mail? Walked their dog or fed their cat while they were on vacation? Invited them over for dinner?

Check out this article for more neighbor friendly ideas.

My neighbors were away for a few days when a package arrived. I held it until they returned. they, in turn, made christmas cookies and gave a plate to me. i love to eat!

My neighbor watches out for my place when I am out of town. It is comforting to know you have a neighbor who will do that for you.

My neighbors have become dear friends, they keep on eye on my place when I work, invite to dinner, and look after my dog. I love living here,I am so blessed. I guess some people live in "Angry Village"....Sad

I hang out with my neighbors all the time. I know that if I needed something they wouldn't even flinch. I'm happy to help them as well.

I'd be happy to help my neighbors. We have shared food and wine. If someone is going to be away we have helped each other with mail, etc. I wish we knew more folks in the quad. Last summer there was an attempt to have a quad picnic. There were not many there, but I am hoping our quad tries it again this year.

It's kinda a shame when you find such push back from people who.. are obviously so unhappy.. that they want to make everyone else unhappy too. I once read that the only reason why someone doesn't like you is they want to be like you in some way. Maybe these socially disabled people are just aching for the chance to belong.. to be invited.. to REALLY be shown that they can contribute to society.

OR....they're just miserable people.. who just want others to feel how miserable their own lives have turned out...

Single.. women... alone... in their units???? HMMMMMMMMM........

Is there a trend I see?

Joking aside, I don't say hello to some men in the village because they are creepy-they'll very obviously look you up and down checking you out. Saying hello to this type of person gives them the idea that you're interested when it shouldn't. just because you're a neighbor does not mean i have to say hello

Anonymous, above:

That's too bad.

Are you a man or a woman?

Are you Perez Hilton?

Are you Paris Hilton?

Do you like fashion movies?

Do you like gladiator movies?

To assume that single women are the primary complainers is wrong, its all the women. The married women are bithy too. Haven't you been walking around AV, encountered a couple out for a stroll, you say hello, and the only one that responds is the man? The woman ignores you. PSA for the married women: we're definitely not after your man. We're just trying to be neighborly.
For the record, I'm a single woman and this blog is getting tiresome and would be better if the owner and posters identified themselves because then (most) people would think twice before trash talking.

I think this thread is getting out of hand.

Everybody needs to take a deep breath, now exhale.

Now, crack open your favorite beverage and relax.
