What do you want from the Arlington Village Board?

Okay...it's Christmas time and I want to know what is on your WISH list for the Arlington Village Board. Tonight is their organizing meeting and they will be deciding who will be President, Treasurer, etc...

Any advice on what Arlington Village should focus their energies on in 2009?

P.S. I can tell you my wish is that they get the Monthly Crier out on time!!! They are a day late already.

I can't help it...

Steve Martin: If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be that all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. If I had two wishes I could make this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace. And the second would be for 30 million dollars a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account. You know, if I had three wishes I could make this holiday season, the first, of course, would be for all the children of the world to get together and sing, the second would be for the 30 million dollars every month to me, and the third would be for encompassing power over every living being in the entire universe. And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season, the first would be the crap about the kids definitely, the second would be for the 30 million, the third would be for all the power, and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year to have an extended 31-day orgasm, to be brought out slowly by Rosanna Arquette and that model Paulina-somebody, I can't think of her name. Of course my lovely wife can come too and she's behind me one hundred percent here, I guarantee it. Wait a minute, maybe the sex thing should be the first wish, so if I made that the first wish, because it could all go boom tomorrow, then what do you got, y'know? No, no, the kids, the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. But wait a minute, who am I kidding? They're not going to be able to get all those kids together. I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible, more trouble than it's worth! So -- we reorganize! Here we go. First, the sex thing. We go with that. Second, the money. No, we got with the power second, then the money. And then the kids. Oh wait, oh jeez, I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay, I need revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in hell! That would be my fourth wish. And, of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. Thank you everybody and Merry Christmas.

better web site

I'd like to see the Crier arrive in my e-mail inbox rather than to my mailbox. This shouldn't be too hard and it would be more environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

i'm making another request that the blogger moderate comments, b/c there are just too many idiots who post. do they really live here?

No anonymous postings on this blog. Come out of the closet.

I agree about the electronic newsletter. Perhaps we could select how we would receive it, as some may not have access to the internet.

My primary wish is for Arlington Village to consider banning gas-powered leaf blowers. They are VERY noisy and generate a great deal of air pollution. They stir up the mold, allergens, and dust particles, which are already packed down by rain and beginning to decompose. The noise pollution is terrible and happens on a weekly basis! There are other alternatives, such as using electric blowers and RAKING!

During the spring I reported a crime to the AV office and they said they would let the community know about it, but they never did.

What happened was I caught 2 thieves red-handed stealing packages from AV owners door steps during the day. They walked all throughout AV looking for packages and another resident found them in the ravine opening boxes they stole. Once I caught them they denied it, even though the thief was holding a box delivered to my neighbor. The cops ended up coming but the culprits ran away with some items.

So AV residents, during the spring/summer months, tell you neighbors you have packages arriving so at least another eye can be on them.

Oh, and I wish the board would update their website and get with the times!

Re: "Crier is a day late already"...when, exactly, is the Crier supposed to be delivered? Anybody know who controls when it's delivered?

Also, I've just returned from having been away from the village for a couple of months, and have spent the last few days catching up on the AV blog. What I've noticed is that the blog seems to have degenerated to some degree into a site where people anonymously snipe at and take potshots at people they don't like/disagree with. Is that the purpose of this blog? Because if it is--and I'm thinking of cupcake and gyarlington who have posted here recently--I'm thinking that this blog will go a long way toward turning neighbor against neighbor. Is that what the blog moderator intended for this site?

I agree with Lily. Not only will it turn neighbor against neighbor, what happens if it turns potential buyers against Arlington Village?

Although I generally agree with Lily's points, I'm not sure that we can hold the moderator responsible. I find the blog entertaining and informative for the most part; and I kind of expect some of the snipes...

Keeps it interesting in a way.

I'm not sure it would keep nice people out of Arlington Village, though.

Open question to poster "cupcake"--your post on 7 November says:
"Hate is such a powerful word. I prefer distrust.

Give me a click."

I clicked on the name (cupcake)...and the link took me to Jan Kennemer's Facebook page. What's up with that? Is "cupcake" = Jan Kennemer? If "cupcake" is NOT Jan Kennemer, what is the purpose of linking to Jan's Facebook page? Could you, cupcake, please correct the link to your OWN Facebook/Myspace page?

Thank you for everyone that reads the blog and posts. I just want to say I moderate this blog and take off as many malicious or "not so nice" comments as I find. I started this blog as a form of communication for neighbors not a way of bashing them. I also try and find stories about what's happening in our area and ways to help the community. It's a lot easier to remember the bad over the good.

The blog is going to have some growing pains. Not everyone knows how to properly behave on this type of medium.

To be honest some people post impish things...because the blog is not a favorite of everyone. Some people just don't like everyone knowing what happens at Board Meetings or questioning how Arlington Village is run.

I hope you keep posting and reading.

Someone’s jerking our chain. I was curious and I clicked on Cubcakes name and a photo of Palin as President came up.

Hey enough with cupcake. What ever happened to the two people who lost the election, Jodie Moxley and that new guy?

Is that you, cupcake?

Does anyone know the number of votes each Board candidate recieved?

No cupcake here, but I bet your JM?

Don't bet too much, though. I bet you meant "you're"

Is this like a dating site, now?

As a new resident and owner (OK, "mortgagee"), I'd prefer more transparency (people posting at least their real first names). A big reason I was attracted to AV was my perception that it's a friendly and open community (relative to DC I mean). Would the blogger please identify his/herself?

Oh, and re: security issues, how about a special section here where we can post what we've heard about thefts, vandalism, etc?

A neighbor facing the Walter Reed center and the ravine had his bike and his child's bike stolen in broad daylight. This was in the fall.

Katie...welcome to Arlington Village. Yes, AV is a quaint little community. However, it can't decide how to communicate to its residents. Needless to say...we are supposed to get the Crier at the first of every month...yet it is already the 6th and no Crier. As for making people put their first names...some people are just going to lie...or say they are someone who they aren't. I'd rather they just post anonymous than mess with people. Such as the posting which asked cupcake who they are really? I doubt it is Sarah Palin.

Lastly, if I said who I was...then people wouldn't send me information about the village or I couldn't talk to people without them thinking I'd use their info on the blog. To be honest...the blog isn't written by one person...it is written by many.
