General Manager of Arlington Village Terminated
If you read anything from yesterday's posts you now know that our General Manager (GM) was terminated last evening. I haven't heard the exact reasons however I'm sure that the Board will be sending a notice to residents about the circumstances. Perhaps there were people at the meeting last night that know more than this blog?

Northern Virginia Emergency Response System Full-Scale Exercise Sept. 26
FYI...here is a message from Arlington County Website...
City of Alexandria and Arlington County Joint Field Operation
Time: 7 a.m. to noon – Exercise play begins at 9 a.m.
Location: CSX tracks north of Crystal City (between Roaches Run and Pentagon)
The scenario designed to exercise Arlington County and the City of Alexandria involves the simulated detonation of a vehicle-based improvised explosive device (VBIED) near the rail tracks north of Crystal City (an area known as the “RO”), creating a mutual aid response. The simulated explosion creates a mass casualty situation with many burn patients. To add to the complexity of the incident, the scenario dictates that a CSX rail car was damaged in the explosion, creating a hazardous materials situation. In all, the scenario is designed to test the capabilities of incident management and coordination of pre-hospital and medical surge resources.
The exercise will begin at 9 a.m. and will run for approximately three hours. Area residents may notice a number of public safety vehicles in the vicinity during the exercise. The Joint Field Operation for the Crystal City incident will include:
Fire, Police and Emergency Management personnel from Arlington County and City of Alexandria
Fort Myer
Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA)
American Red Cross
CSX
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers

Halloween Around the Corner
Since the holiday is just coming down the bend, was wondering if in year's past...are there a lot of trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood?
Also, I know that the security committee does a contest for Christmas Lights but what about doing one for Halloween decorations as well? It seems like the kids in the neighborhood would benefit from having all the front porch lights on for Halloween.

Reminder: Budget Meeting Tonight
If you haven't seen this already on signs around the Village or in the Crier...there is a budget meeting tonight! Come and find out what your condo fees are going towards.
This is a great opportunity to have your voice heard about things you think the Village needs...whether it be better storage rooms, better grounds work or dont' think condo fees should go up next year.

Pool Survey in Crier?
Did anyone take this survey yet? Not sure about their cess-pool name...perhaps you can come up with a different spin on their Committee name?
A Message from the Committee to Extend Summer Swimming (CESS-pool)
By Clare Hayden, Katie Graves, Vanessa Moulin, Lida Anestidou
One of the joys of summer is the open AV pool, whose season officially ends on Labor Day (plus two additional weekends). One hundred and nineteen pool users signed a petition, left for a week by the sign-in sheet, to extend the pool season until the end of September. Although this year the motion did not succeed, we would like to explore the possibility of renegotiating the pool contract for next year. To better inform the Board about how the pool is used, we invite each AV household to take part in a short survey about their pool preferences. The survey url is here and it will be open until October 15. We will discuss the survey results at an open town hall meeting on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 pm, in the AV Community room. To share additional thoughts about the pool, please write to us at avpoolfeedback@yahoo.com .

Elections for the Board of Directors
Did everyone read their AV mail today? Yes it is that time of year again to vote for our Board of Directors. There are 4 spots open so I hope that we can get a bevy of candidates.
I only wonder why all candidate statements have to be in by September 28th? Today is the 10th of September...so you get 18 days to figure out if you want to be in the Board running. However, the "Meet the Candidates" night isn't until NOVEMBER 4TH!!!
I personally think that if you want to run you should have until at least October 31st to throw your hat in the ring. What's the harm in giving people a month or so to think about a long term committment? Where does it say in the bylaws that you have to declare your candidacy over a month before the annual meeting?
Anyone know who is up for election that is already on the Board?

Film Crew at Corner
Anyone else see the film crew at the Thai restaurant across from where Giant used to be? Was wondering if anyone famous was there?

Computer Missing from Storage Unit?
Did anyone see this in the classifieds section of the Crier? Someone stole a computer from a storage unit and the owner is posting a $200 reward. It sounds like the computer had a lot of pictures on it that were very near and dear to the owner.
I always thought of the storage units as pretty safe. Makes me wonder if I should re-evaluate what I've put away???
Good luck reward poster. I hope that you find the computer and get your memories back.
