OK...I've gotten a few emails from people wanting me to post about this subject. Here is the problem, an unnamed Board Member planted a row of plants on the corner of S. Cleveland and S. 13th Road. I walked down there to look at it...feel free to do the same. From what I've been told, it is in violation of AV rules to plant anything in the common area outide of your established beds.
After the plants were spotted both the Grounds Committee and the Board said that the plants needed to go. So far...the plants are still there. So...does the Board Member get to stay on the Board even though they have blatant disregard for the AV rules?
Personally, I really don't care what happens with this situation. I think it points to a bigger problem in enforcement of rules. It seems that a lot of people do whatever they want and possibly get a letter scolding them from the office. Whereas other people ask permission to do what they want (whether planting or remodeling) and are taken on a 3 or 4 month journey through meeting after meeting or email after email to make sure they have just the right measurements or a non-invasive plant species for their garden.
So it doesn't surprise me that even a Board Member would rather ask for forgiveness than permission. However if the Board Member doesn't have to follow the rules that they themselves voted for...why should anyone else have to follow the rules?

You don't care about the situation but you want the rules enforced? Well, if you want the rules enforced you should care about the situation.
We must hold the board to enforcing the rules otherwise anything can and will happen.
I want to screen in my back porch for my new hot tub. I am also thinking of putting a bike rack next to parking lot. I also am going to open the pool myself after hours and have a pool party. Do you care what happens in those situations.
Hmmm. I'm not sure the Blogger meant for the two posters above to infer that he/she was not dispassionate about this issue; just that there was an implied level of disinterest in the outcome.
And I can't see how exposing obvious hypocrisy from a board member reaches any recognized level of shame...
...unless, of course, there is some personal connection between said board member and the posters above.
I like the after hours pool party idea - can I come?
FYI the second comment was deleted because it was utterly ridiculous. I knew this post would find some "trolls" that would rather not let Arlington Village residents know what's actually going on in the Village. This is why the blog was started last year in order to distribute information.
Can someone get back on topic? Isn't the point of the post that some people are made to follow rules while others aren't? I don't expect the Board to police Arlington Village. However if you are told that you are breaking a rule why wouldn't you enforce yourself? Sounds like someone is just having a tantrum.
Get back on topic? If we don't see it your way, you delete our comments?
Your angry at the World and whoever suggested it's because you ran for the board and lost, was right on.
Right now YOU'RE the only person posting comments because you're censoring everyones thoughts.
If AV'ers can't comment why have a blog. TO HEAR YOURSELF!!!
SOUR GRAPES!!!
Oh my, what have I mmissed today! Is the head honcho a former board member?
I haven't posted here before but I DO appreciate this blog.
I REALLY want the "sour grapes" person to stop posting. Clearly this person has a problem, and I can't see how they think it could be addressed here.
If you, "sour grapes," do not like this blog or anyone on it - and clearly you don't - then just don't visit.
All you are doing is ruining it for the rest of us.
I will gladly identify myself if you will, so we can put a STOP to your rantings.
There was a comment posted earlier that has now been removed indicating that our blogger actually is a former board candidate that didn’t get elected. Could the removal be confirming evidence?
I almost never delete comments unless they are so delusional or hateful that they make reading the blog inane. Technically what the last poster is implying is that anyone who has ever lost a Board Election is ripe to start a blog about Arlington Village. I have an idea who this poster is and I usually ignore them because AV is the only thing that they have in their life and I feel sorry for them. However their postings have gotten more and more hateful over the past few weeks. I will keep deleting their posts for the sanity of everyone else that reads the blog for the information it provides and for the forum it gives people to discuss issues.
Good for you, blogger, and thank you.
So Marla,
Is it okay to dig in every common grass area and plant my favorite plant? No, so why would AV start letting every resident do the same? The rules keep that from happening. You might have liked it but other residents did not.
I will likely never seek board approval prior to renovations or gardening changes. Come get me and then I will ask for forgiveness which based on others actions I have complete justification to receive.
Next up - how to make a unwanted tree disappear... Don't worry tree huggers, I'll plant one in your front yard to balance things out.
Head Blogger:
You're a hateful person and you're angry with the world you live in.
Since you been in AV you have nothing but cause trouble to our community.
Instead of finding the joy within your neighborhood, you look for problems.
You're petty.
No one can believe how much time you've devoted to punishing one person for planting shrubs in her front yard.
You're evil and we'll keep our eye on you to make sure EVERYTHING in your world is according to AV standards. Or else.
Go ahead, delete once again.
And you, anonymous above, have just committed a crime.
I have copied and saved your post in case the blogger does delete it. I may just re-post it everyday to remind the visitors to this blog what kind of people we have in A.V. (maybe even on the board of A.V.)
I'm not going to insult you, though. But I will make this offer: If you contact me (through this blog), I promise I will help you. Promise.
Blogger please don't respond or delete the post that was just posted to you. It is beyond insanity and speaks right to the truth of what you posted earlier. I don't see how bringing up the fact that someone broke the rules is punishing them by any means. Whoever posted is either the committer of the offense or a close personal friend. Either way they are overreacting and making fools of themselves in the process.
"You're evil and we'll keep our eye on you to make sure EVERYTHING in your world is according to AV standards. Or else."
Blogger, I think you should call the police on this stalker. Scary that someone like this lives in AV.
All we’re missing is the calliope music. Then we’d really have a circus.
Wow. Who is this person who is threatening people? Ridiculous.
Follow the rules. Its not that hard. As a board member a person should be more aware of the rules than others. The plants should be removed. The board decided such. Remove them. No reason to get hateful folks. They are only plants.
I actually think the blog is a service. We don't get much information out of the office and their website is (still) not updated. Thank you blogger for doing a good job keeping us informed. I don't understand the threats here. If this site bothers you don't look at it. No one is forcing you to do so.
The truth is that there are different set of rules for different people. If your not a 10+ year resident, then your basically a non-factor as far as the Management is concerned. I ask for a replacement of a 15 dollar garden item, and told that's not a Village covered expense, then 'older' residents get reimbursed for deciding what plants they want in the yard.
I 100% agree with the original post about the length of time for anything to get done in AV. The scolding letters are a joke. There are many repeat offenders of minor things like noise and pet issues, yet they just continue to do it. AV is supposed to enforce fines on repeat violations...does this ever happen?
The 'long time' residents also seem to want to help 'over-enforce' all the rules, by constantly stick their nose into anything you try to do. Then they constantly break other rules. It's like they feel that the minor rules don't apply to them. I'm so tired of people yapping on Saturday and Sundays in front of my unit at 7am. Even if it is 'outside' of quiet hours, anyone who respects their neighbors will shut up until 10am, or close your door at night so your blaring TV or party nose doesn't carry to the courtyard. I don't want to 'tattle' on neighbors...I just want some common sense used and some respect to be given by ALL residents.
Can’t we all just get along?
Remember: Love thy neighbor!
A word from Betty Bowers, “America’s Best Christian”
Betty. Just loved clicking on your bio. Tooooooo funny, and true.
"anonymous" in most of these post must be the head blogger, because no one really agrees with her "take no hostage" attitude. they are all written within the same time period. too funny. must be sad when you have to respond to your own responses.
"Personally, I really don't care what happens with this situation."
If you don't care, then why did go after her in such a public and vicious way?
You again (or still)? I'm not AVO; I'm the one who offered to help you. The offer still stands, too.
If you don't agree with the blogger on something, fine. Try and jump-start the ol' synapse and explain why - instead of attempting to guess what others are thinking...
and condemning.
Thanks to everyone that has written in. Just so you know I'm not responding to my own posts. I actually have been out of town for the past 2 days and haven't even read the posts til this morning. Lots of people guess who the blogger is but they will be surprised to know that they are way off.
